Wankdorfcity 3 Bern

Wankdorf City nimmt als neuer Stadtteil Berns eine besondere Rolle ein: An wichtigen Verkehrsknotenpunkten gelegen, ist Wankdorf City ein Tor zur Stadt. Hier wird als dritte Etappe neben den modernen, jedoch nüchternen Bürobauten ein lebhaftes, dichtes und vor allem attraktives Quartier für verschiedenste Zielgruppen entstehen. Neben der besonderen Position in Bern bietet die Ausgangslage des Richtprojekts mit durchmischter Nutzung, verschiedenen Typologien und innovativen Konzepten grosses Potenzial. 

Gleichzeitig birgt vor allem die aussergewöhnliche Lage eine Vielzahl an Schwierigkeiten: Sowohl die zweiseitig vorbeiführende Autobahn als auch die Bahnstrecke verursachen enorme Lärmimmissionen. Zusätzlich erschweren die Infrastrukturbauwerke der Umgebung die Erschliessung. Die angestrebte Dichte macht zudem eine intensive Analyse des Lichteinfalls notwendig.

Das Richtprojekt für Wankdorf City 3 zeigt viele innovative Lösungsansätze, die im vorliegenden Projekt „Down to Earth“ tiefgründig analysiert, evaluiert und weiterentwickelt wurden. Statt in den Konditionen des Projekts und des Kontexts unüberwindbare Hürden zu sehen, werden die Konflikte konstruktiv mit einer städtebaulichen und architektonischen Gesamtkomposition als Potenziale gesehen. Dabei geht das Projekt stets interdisziplinär, also alle Zusammenhänge parallel betrachtend, vor und bezieht von Beginn an wichtige Fachdisziplinen mit ein. Während die Weiterbearbeitung von Wankdorf City 3 alle Themen abdeckt, werden vor allem die Bereiche Schallschutz, Struktur, Nachhaltigkeit und Soziales im Fokus betrachtet und auf den folgenden Seiten detailliert erläutert.

Entlang der genannten Faktoren – Schall, Licht, Raum, Nutzung, Struktur und Nachhaltigkeit – wurde das Projekt ganzheitlich entwickelt. Dabei ist zu betonen, dass hierbei ebenso wie im vorangegangenen Richtprojekt Konzepte und innovative Lösungsansätze verfolgt werden, die im weiteren Verlauf der Projektwerkstatt intensiv verhandelt und weiterentwickelt werden müssen. Das Anliegen des dargestellten Projekts ist somit nicht ein abschliessender präzisierter Zustand, sondern das Aufzeigen von Konzepten und Potenzialen – in diesem Falle zusammen und ganzheitlich gedacht.

Wankdorf City takes on a special role as a new district of Bern: Located at important traffic junctions, Wankdorf City is a gateway to the city. Here, as the third stage, a lively, dense and, above all, attractive quarter for a wide variety of target groups will be created alongside the modern but sober office buildings. In addition to its special position in Bern, the initial situation of the indicative project with mixed use, different typologies and innovative concepts offers great potential.
At the same time, the exceptional location in particular poses a number of difficulties: Both the highway passing by on two sides and the railroad line cause enormous noise emissions. In addition, the infrastructure structures in the surrounding area make development difficult. The desired density also necessitates an intensive analysis of the incidence of light.

The indicative project for Wankdorf City 3 shows many innovative approaches to solutions, which have been deeply analyzed, evaluated and further developed in the present project „Down to Earth“. Instead of seeing insurmountable hurdles in the conditions of the project and the context, the conflicts are seen constructively with an overall urban and architectural composition as potentials. The project always proceeds in an interdisciplinary manner, i.e. considering all contexts in parallel, and involves important specialist disciplines from the outset. While the further development of Wankdorf City 3 covers all topics, the areas of sound insulation, structure, sustainability and social issues are considered in particular and explained in detail on the following pages.

Along the mentioned factors – sound, light, space, use, structure and sustainability – the project was developed holistically. It should be emphasized that here, as in the previous indicative project, concepts and innovative approaches to solutions are being pursued that will have to be intensively negotiated and further developed in the further course of the project workshop. The concern of the project presented is thus not a final specified state, but the demonstration of concepts and potentials – in this case thought together and holistically.
